About

Hopeville Pond Picnic Shelter is a day-use group facility located within Hopeville Pond State Park in southeastern Connecticut. The shelter provides a shaded gathering space equipped with 8 picnic tables, 3 charcoal grills, 2 horseshoe pits, and a volleyball net. An ADA-accessible composting restroom is situated just 25 feet from the structure, and the reservation includes dedicated parking for up to 15 vehicles. The facility is ideal for family reunions, company picnics, and group outings. The park's sandy beach and 137-acre pond are approximately 2,000 feet from the shelter, offering swimming and fishing opportunities during the warm season. The pond was historically created by Native Americans who constructed stone weirs to catch eels, shad, and other fish. This is strictly a day-use facility. Access to the shelter ends 30 minutes before sunset, and all guests must exit the park by sunset. Alcohol is permanently banned at this park. Amplified music, bounce houses, and other play equipment are not permitted.
