About

Mount Misery Campground is located in the Chapman area of Pachaug State Forest, Connecticut's largest state forest spanning over 27,000 acres. The campground sits near Mount Misery Overlook, the highest point in the vicinity at 441 feet elevation, offering views of the surrounding forest. The 22 wooded campsites accommodate tents and small RVs, each equipped with a picnic table and fire ring. The forest provides extensive recreational opportunities with miles of roads and trails for hiking, snowmobiling, motorcycling, and equestrian use. The nearby Rhododendron Sanctuary offers a scenic walk through an unusual ecological area, with blooms typically peaking around July 4th. Beachdale Pond is stocked with trout and features natural populations of bass, pickerel, and bullhead, with a wheelchair-accessible fishing platform. This is a rustic campground with no modern conveniences like flush toilets or showers, and cell phone service is extremely limited. Reservations are required and can be made up to 11 months in advance through the Connecticut State Parks reservation system. An alcohol ban is enforced throughout Pachaug State Forest campgrounds.

From I-395, take exit 22. Take Route 138 east for 9 miles, then turn left onto Route 49 north.
