About

Frosty Hollow Shelter Camping Area is a primitive backpack camping destination nestled within Rhode Island's largest management area. The Arcadia Management Area spans over 14,000 acres of mixed hardwoods, evergreens, and fields, offering an immersive wilderness experience just minutes from Route 95 and the Connecticut border. This single-site camping area accommodates up to 30 people and is designed for tent camping only. The site features a fire pit ring for campfires, a drop toilet, and a nearby pavilion with picnic tables. As a primitive camping location, campers should come prepared with their own water and supplies. The campground provides direct access to an extensive network of multiuse trails suitable for hiking, mountain biking, horseback riding, and cross-country skiing. Nearby Frosty Hollow and Breakheart Ponds offer opportunities for fishing and wildlife viewing. Access requires a short 1/3-mile walk from the gated entrance on Escoheag Hill Road. Parking is available along the road but there is no official parking lot, and the gate must not be blocked. Reservations must be made at least one day in advance through the Rhode Island State Parks reservation system.

Directions

From Route 95 South, take exit 14A to RI-102S, turn right onto Route 165 E to Escoheag Hill Road. Parking available along Escoheag Hill Road next to the access gate. The site is approximately 1/3 mile behind the gated access.
