About
Frosty Hollow Shelter Camping Area offers a primitive backpack camping experience in the heart of Rhode Island's Arcadia Management Area. Located in Exeter near the Connecticut border and just minutes from Route 95, this remote site provides immediate access to the management area's extensive multiuse trail system. The campsite is situated approximately one-third mile behind a gated access point, requiring campers to walk in their gear from parking along Escoheag Hill Road. The camping area accommodates up to 30 people and is restricted to tent camping only. Facilities are intentionally minimal to preserve the primitive camping experience, with a fire pit ring for campfires, a nearby pavilion equipped with picnic tables, and a vault toilet. The location serves as an excellent base camp for exploring the Arcadia Management Area's diverse trail network, which offers opportunities for hiking, mountain biking, and wildlife viewing. As a primitive backpack site within Rhode Island's largest management area, Frosty Hollow attracts campers seeking a more rugged outdoor experience. The surrounding Arcadia Management Area spans over 14,000 acres of mostly forested land with managed wildlife habitat, numerous hiking trails, and freshwater fishing opportunities. The campground's year-round availability makes it suitable for experienced campers prepared for seasonal weather conditions.
