About
Hog Park Campground offers a peaceful setting on the southeast shore of Hog Park Reservoir in the Medicine Bow-Routt National Forests at approximately 8,400 feet elevation. The campground features 50 sunny campsites spread across three loops, with 27 reservable sites and 22 first-come, first-served sites on the back loop (recommended for tents and small campers due to a tight turning radius). Each site includes a picnic table and fire grate.
The campground has been logged to remove beetle-killed trees, creating an open, sunny environment with broad views of the reservoir and surrounding Sierra Madre mountains. A boat ramp is located near the campground, providing easy access to Hog Park Reservoir for boating, fishing, and water sports. The area offers excellent opportunities for hiking, including access to the Continental Divide National Scenic Trail, as well as wildlife viewing and scenic photography.
The Sierra Madre Range lies southwest of Saratoga, Wyoming, featuring two wilderness areas: Huston Park Wilderness and Encampment River Wilderness. The 57-mile Battle Pass Scenic Byway runs through this area and is known for spectacular fall colors. Nearby points of interest include the Continental Divide, Green Mountain Falls, and the Encampment River headwaters.
Directions
From Encampment, take WY Highway 70 west five miles to Forest Road 550 and the Hog Park Reservoir sign. Turn onto Forest Road 550 and drive approximately 16 miles to FR 496. Continue on Forest Road 496 for 1.5 miles to the campground sign. Turn right, cross the dam, and enter the campground. Once you leave WY Highway 70 you will be on a gravel road that may have washboards in the curves.
