About
Built in 1963 and listed on the National Historic Registry, Blackhall Mountain Lookout rests atop a nearly 11,000-foot summit in the Sierra Madre Range of southeast Wyoming. The journey to the end of one of the highest roads in Wyoming rewards visitors with panoramic views of the surrounding Medicine Bow-Routt National Forest. The wrap-around catwalk offers an unobstructed 360-degree vantage point for watching Wyoming sunrises, sunsets, star gazing, and occasional lightning storms. The tower sleeps 4 comfortably with one queen-sized bed and one twin-sized bunk bed. Amenities include propane heat, a propane stove, and LED solar lights. AT&T and Union cell signals are reported. A vault toilet is located nearby. As a remote cabin, potable water is not available, and guests must bring their own drinking water, bedding, dishes, silverware, and cooking utensils. No electrical outlets or charge ports are available. Access requires a high-clearance vehicle with 4WD for the final 3 miles. Bringing a saw is recommended in case of fallen trees on the road. As a functioning fire tower, availability may be modified at any time for fire suppression operations.
