About

Hahns Peak Lake Campground occupies a scenic lakeside setting in the Routt National Forest of northwest Colorado. At 8,500 feet elevation, the campground sits beneath the distinctive profile of Hahns Peak (10,774 ft), the easternmost point of the Elkhead Mountains. The 26 campsites are distributed across two loops (Woods and Lake) within a mixed spruce, pine, and fir forest. Lupine, columbine, and other wildflowers bloom throughout the campground during summer months. The 160-acre Hahns Peak Lake provides excellent trout fishing from shore or by boat. Only non-motorized and electric motor boats are permitted. Hiking, mountain biking, and OHV use are available on surrounding trails, with the Prospector/Nipple Peak Loop being especially popular for mountain biking. The West Side Lake Trail offers a nearly mile-long walk along the lakeshore. Steamboat Lake State Park is a short drive away for additional recreation. Four vault toilets serve the campground. No potable water is available; campers must bring their own supply. Bear-resistant food storage is required. The high elevation means visitors should acclimate gradually if arriving from lower elevations.
