Open — Open year-round. Sunflower and Scott Creek campgrounds remain open with utilities on during winter months and operate as first-come, first-served through March 31. Some seasonal facilities like the swim beach are closed during winter.

Hillsdale State Park encompasses over 12,000 acres surrounding Hillsdale Lake, completed in 1982 as one of Kansas' newest reservoirs. The park features approximately 4,500 acres of water with 51 miles of shoreline, offering exceptional fishing opportunities for walleye, catfish, largemouth bass, crappie, and bluegill. More than 70 percent of standing timber was left in the reservoir basin to provide fish habitat. The park offers multiple camping areas to suit different needs. Scott Creek and Sunflower campgrounds provide year-round camping with electric and water hookups, while Russell Crites offers a mix of 98 sites with utilities and 18 primitive sites. Saddle Ridge serves equestrian campers with 22 utility sites, 12 primitive sites, and access to 32 miles of marked horse trails on the east side of the reservoir. Rabbit Ridge provides 38 primitive sites for those seeking a more rustic experience. Modern amenities include showers, flush toilets, dump stations, and laundry facilities at main campgrounds. Beyond camping, visitors enjoy a 5-mile ADA-accessible paved trail, a shooting range facility with rifle, pistol, and trap/skeet ranges, archery range, disc golf course, and swim beach. Wildlife viewing opportunities abound with whitetail deer, bobwhite quail, turkeys, bald eagles, and various waterfowl. The park offers roughly 7,000 acres open to hunting. Conveniently located about 3 miles east of the US-169/K-7 and 255th Street interchange, the park provides easy access from the Kansas City area.
