About
Hillsborough River State Park Campground offers a peaceful retreat just minutes from Tampa with 112 established campsites suitable for both RVs and tents. Most sites include electric hookups, and all sites have water, a fire ring, and picnic table. The campground accommodates RVs up to 50 feet and features restrooms with hot showers and laundry facilities in each loop, with a dump station available for convenience. The park provides exceptional outdoor recreation opportunities including seven miles of nature trails that wind through diverse habitats such as pine flatwoods, hardwood hammocks, and cypress swamps. The Hillsborough River features rare Class II rapids and offers excellent paddling, with kayak and canoe rentals available. Fishing is popular with bass, bream, and catfish commonly caught. The historic Fort Foster site, dating from the Second Seminole War era of 1836-1838, provides living history experiences. Select campsites allow hammock camping, and the park welcomes leashed pets. The Wetlands Restoration Trail is open to bicyclists, and an equestrian trail provides five miles of horseback riding. Group primitive camping is available for organized youth and adult groups in four separate areas that accommodate up to 60 people. With its combination of natural beauty, historical significance, and proximity to Tampa, Hillsborough River State Park offers diverse experiences for campers seeking both adventure and relaxation.
