Hillsborough River State Park Campground sits along the scenic Hillsborough River in central Florida, offering 112 campsites spread across multiple loops in a shaded, natural setting. One of Florida's oldest state parks, established in 1936, it protects a unique stretch of the river featuring the state's only naturally occurring Class II rapids. Each campsite is equipped with water hookups, 50-amp electric service, a fire ring, and picnic table, making it suitable for both tent and RV camping. The campground provides modern amenities including restrooms with hot showers and laundry facilities in each loop, plus a centrally located dump station. Beyond camping, visitors can explore miles of trails, rent canoes and kayaks to paddle the rapids, swim in the man-made pool, and visit the reconstructed Fort Foster, a Second Seminole War fortification. The park's proximity to Tampa makes it an accessible getaway while still offering a natural Florida experience. Ten ADA-compliant sites are available, and the campground accommodates RVs up to 50 feet. Pets are welcome on leash throughout the campground but are prohibited in the group camping area. Reservations are available up to 11 months in advance through the Florida State Parks reservation system.

Located at 15402 US 301 North, Thonotosassa, FL 33592. From Tampa, take I-75 north to I-4 east, then exit onto US 301 north. The park entrance is approximately 6 miles north on the left.
