About
Alafia River State Park Campground sits within a unique reclaimed phosphate mine landscape in southeastern Hillsborough County, offering some of the most dramatic elevation changes in Florida. The campground features 30 full-facility sites suitable for both RVs and tent campers, each equipped with water and electric hookups. Clean restrooms with solar-heated showers serve all campers, and two large picnic pavilions provide gathering spaces. A community fire pit with benches creates a social atmosphere for registered guests. Equestrian enthusiasts have access to 12 designated campsites with horse tie-outs, 12 stables, and 6 paddocks available first-come, first-served. The barn is a short walk from the campground, with extra trailer parking near the barn area. The park's 20 miles of multiuse trails wind through mixed hardwood forests, pine flatwoods, and rolling hills past numerous tranquil lakes, offering excellent opportunities for horseback riding and hiking. The park has gained international recognition for its mountain biking trails, which feature steep grades and challenging terrain across beginner to highly advanced routes. A full-service bike shop on-site provides rentals, repairs, and lessons. The South Prong of the Alafia River flows through the park, bordered by bottomland forest with red maple, swamp tupelo, and water hickory, offering paddling and fishing opportunities. Wildlife viewing is excellent, with white-tailed deer, bobcat, river otter, fox, gopher tortoise, wading birds, hawks, and bald eagles commonly spotted throughout the park.
