About

Panola Mountain State Park provides a unique primitive camping experience within the Arabia Mountain National Heritage Area, just 18 miles southeast of Atlanta. Five tent sites are nestled near Scout Lake, offering a secluded retreat despite proximity to the metro area. The half-mile hike to the campsites filters out casual visitors and creates a peaceful atmosphere ideal for stargazing thanks to minimal light pollution. Each campsite features a tent pad that accommodates up to two tents, a picnic table, a lamp post, and access to composting toilets. Two sites share a fire pit while others have individual fire rings. Campers must bring their own drinking water as none is available on site. The park offers 36 miles of trails for hiking and biking, plus fishing at Alexander Lake and archery facilities. The park's Nature Center provides educational programming about the unique granite outcrop ecosystem. A ParkPass is required for vehicle entry but overnight guests pay only once regardless of stay length. Reservations are available through the Georgia State Parks system.
