About

High Bluff Campground sits within Lake Talquin State Forest, a 19,300-acre forest located in Gadsden, Leon, and Liberty Counties, just 20 miles west of Tallahassee. The campground occupies a scenic location on the northern shore of Lake Talquin along the Ochlockonee River. With 19 primitive campsites accessible to both tents and RVs, the campground provides a rustic camping experience in a diverse natural setting that includes upland pine forest, pine flatwoods, swamp bottomlands, and temperate hardwood forests. All campsites are primitive with no electric or water hookups, though each site is equipped with a picnic table and fire ring or grill. Maximum driveway lengths range from 24 to 36 feet depending on the site, with each site accommodating up to 8 people. The campground offers vault restroom facilities, a fishing pier, and a boat ramp for lake access. Horse camping is permitted for self-sufficient campers who bring their own portable corrals or tie-outs. The surrounding forest features dramatic topography with elevation changes of up to 100 feet and includes portions of the Florida Scenic Trail and Great Florida Birding and Wildlife Trail. Lake Talquin provides excellent freshwater fishing opportunities accessible from shore or by boat. The forest's 12-mile equestrian trail on the Fort Braden Tract and 9-mile off-road bicycle trail on the Lines Tract offer additional recreational opportunities. The location is ideal for canoeing, kayaking, hiking, picnicking, bird watching, wildlife viewing, and photography in a diverse ecosystem representative of the southern Tallahassee Hills region.
