About

Ft. Braden Primitive Campsites are located within the Fort Braden Tract of Lake Talquin State Forest, approximately 10 miles west of Tallahassee in Leon County. The campground features three primitive sites: two individual tent-only sites accessible exclusively by hiking, canoe, kayak, or boat, and one group site accessible by vehicle or hiking. Both individual sites are positioned along hiking trail loops overlooking Lake Talquin, with the west loop site at 2.6 to 4.4 miles from the trailhead and the central loop site similarly accessible via moderately strenuous trails with steep inclines. The group campsite includes three horse stalls for equestrians and can accommodate up to 20 people. All sites feature fire rings and picnic tables, but no electric or water hookups are available. The Fort Braden Trailhead provides vault restrooms and a pavilion, with an additional pavilion located on the Central Loop trail near the tent-only sites. The area offers extensive recreational opportunities including three hiking loops, two equestrian trail loops totaling 10-12 miles, fishing, boating, wildlife viewing, and photography. Lake Talquin provides excellent freshwater fishing accessible from shore or by boat.
