About
Hidden Valley Campground is nestled in a secluded valley along the Jackson River in Bath County, Virginia, within the George Washington National Forest. True to its name, the area feels remarkably hidden and remote, surrounded by vast fields of wildflowers that attract butterflies, birds, and other wildlife throughout the warmer months. The campground serves as a base for exploring over 20 miles of trails suitable for hiking and horseback riding, with day-use horse trailer parking available. The Jackson River flows through the valley and is regularly stocked with trout, providing excellent fishing opportunities in addition to native cold-water species. The area has drawn visitors for hundreds of years and features the historic Warwickton Mansion, an antebellum-era home built in 1848 that now operates as a bed and breakfast. Film enthusiasts may recognize the valley as the setting for the 1993 movie Somersby starring Richard Gere and Jodie Foster. This is a first-come, first-served campground only; no advance reservations are accepted. Campers must arrive in person to claim and pay for sites, with payment options including cash, check, or scanning a QR code via the Recreation.gov mobile app where available. The campground operates seasonally and provides vault toilets and drinking water from faucets during the operating season.
