About
Crystal Springs Day-Use Area is perched on the shores of Lake Ouachita in the Ouachita National Forest, approximately 10 miles west of Hot Springs National Park. The facility provides access to one of the largest and clearest lakes in Arkansas, with 40,000 surface acres of water surrounded by scenic mountain landscape. Approximately 1.2 million people visit Lake Ouachita each year.
The day-use area features two group pavilions with electrical hookups, picnic tables, and lighting. Additional amenities include a bathroom and shower facility, a playground, and a swim beach. The location is unstaffed and reservations for the pavilions must be made through Recreation.gov.
Lake Ouachita is renowned for its exceptional underwater visibility, making scuba diving and snorkeling particularly popular. The lake is home to rare freshwater jellyfish and diverse fish species including striped bass and largemouth bass. Other popular activities include water skiing, jet skiing, fishing, and boating. Bald eagles are commonly spotted during winter months. The scenic 223-mile Ouachita National Recreation Trail runs just north of the lake, offering hiking and mountain biking opportunities.
