About

Hazlett Hollow Campground is one of the most attractive and well-developed campgrounds in the southern Bradshaw Mountains, located in the Horsethief Basin Area of Prescott National Forest. This semi-primitive campground showcases the craftsmanship of the Civilian Conservation Corps, who built most of the stone walls and walkways throughout the facility during the 1930s. The campground is situated among ponderosa pine forests at approximately 6,000 feet elevation. The campground features 15 campsites, each equipped with a unique 3-sided wooden shelter with a concrete floor, picnic table, and fire grill. Sites can accommodate RVs with maximum vehicle lengths varying by site from 22 to 40 feet, though high-clearance vehicles are strongly recommended due to unimproved dirt road access. Each site is designed for up to 5 people, with a maximum of 10 allowed for single large families. Water jugs can be filled at the outdoor hydrant at nearby Horsethief Cabin, approximately one mile away. The Horsethief Basin Area offers numerous recreational opportunities including hiking, off-highway vehicle trails, fishing at Horsethief Lake, and access to the Horsethief Lookout Tower. The campground operates on a first-come, first-served basis with no advance reservations. Access requires traveling unimproved dirt roads through Crown King, making this a destination for those seeking a more remote camping experience.

Directions

From Prescott via Mayer: Take Main St. through Mayer continuing east to Antelope Creek Road. Continue southeast approximately 9 miles to Cordes. Take Forest Road 259 to Crown King.
