About

Blanche Lake Campground is a dispersed camping area situated southeast of Medicine Lake in the Modoc National Forest. Located at approximately 6,700 feet elevation in volcanic terrain, this site offers campers significantly more solitude than the developed campgrounds at nearby Medicine Lake Recreation Area. The campground provides basic facilities with two vault toilets. No potable water is available, so campers must bring sufficient water for drinking, cooking, and washing, plus extra water to properly extinguish campfires. Garbage service is not provided; all trash, including fish guts and pet waste, must be packed out. Dogs are permitted but must be kept on leash. Access is via Forest Service roads from either McCloud (via Highway 89 and FS Roads 15 and 49) or from Tulelake (via Highway 139 and County Road 97). The area typically opens in early July and closes in late October, depending on snow conditions.

Directions

From McCloud, go east on US Highway 89 for 16 miles to Forest Service Road 15 (Harris Spring Road). Turn left on Road 15 and go 4.4 miles to Forest Service Road 49 (Medicine Lake Road). Follow signs 24 miles toward Medicine Lake, then turn right on 43N17 and follow signs to Blanche Lake. Alternatively, from Tulelake travel south 24 miles on State Highway 139 to County Road 97, turn west past Tionesta for approximately 22 miles to FS Road 43N75, turn left for 1.8 miles to FS Road 43N17, then follow signs to the campground.
