About
Green River Lakes Campground sits near the shores of beautiful Lower Green River Lake at an elevation of 8,000 feet on the western edge of the rugged Wind River Range. Square Top Mountain, a unique peak that tops out at 11,581 feet, towers over the scenic lake and most campsites afford spectacular views of this landmark and the water below. The campground is dotted with lodgepole pines that provide very limited shade, while summer wildflowers and abundant wildlife add to the natural beauty of the area. The lake is open to small watercraft only, making it an excellent location for canoeing and kayaking. A primitive, carry-down boat launch is located at the lakeshore. Anglers can fish for brook, cutthroat, rainbow and mackinaw trout. Popular activities include hiking and horseback riding into the Bridger Wilderness and Wind River Range on trails including the Continental Divide Trail, Highline Trail and Lakeside Trail. A trailhead parking area, horse corral and water trough are located just outside the campground. The campground is reached via an 18-mile unpaved road from the forest boundary, which can become impassable to all but four-wheel drive vehicles in poor weather conditions.
Directions
From Pinedale, drive 6 miles west on US-191, turn north onto WY-352 and continue 25 miles to the forest boundary where pavement ends. Continue on the unpaved road (becomes FS-370600, then FS-370650) for 18 miles to the campground. Total distance from Pinedale is approximately 50 miles.
