About
Great Seal State Park's shelter houses provide a unique group camping experience in the scenic hills of southern Ohio. Located adjacent to Sugarloaf Mountain, the shelters offer commanding views of the Scioto Valley below. The park's rugged terrain served as the inspiration for the Great Seal of the State of Ohio, lending the park its distinctive name. Two shelters are available for reservation: Ireland Shelter includes a non-electric fireplace, charcoal grill, and twelve picnic tables, accommodating up to 50 people. Vista Shelter offers similar amenities with a charcoal grill and twelve picnic tables for groups up to 50. Both provide a covered gathering space for groups seeking rustic accommodations. The park features 25 miles of hiking trails ranging from easy to rugged, including the challenging Sugarloaf Mountain Trail. Vault latrines are available in the camping area, along with pressurized drinking water. The 1,862-acre park is open for day use year-round, though overnight facilities operate seasonally.
