About

Rock House Shelter is one of the unique rock shelter camping sites at Hocking Hills State Park in southeastern Ohio. Unlike traditional campsites, this primitive accommodation allows visitors to camp within an actual geological rock shelter formation, providing an experience found nowhere else in Ohio. The site includes a built-in fireplace for warmth and cooking, creating an atmospheric overnight stay. The shelter is located near the famous Rock House geological feature, a massive recess cave with gothic-arched window openings carved by natural erosion into the Blackhand sandstone. The surrounding area offers access to hiking trails including the approximately one-mile Rock House Loop Trail. This is primitive camping with no electricity. Pit latrines are available nearby for restroom facilities. Reservations are required through ReserveOhio.com and can be made up to six months in advance. Due to the unique nature of these rock shelter sites, they book well ahead of time.
