About

Great Seal Campground provides a primitive camping experience within the 1,862-acre Great Seal State Park in Ohio's scenic Scioto Valley. The campground features 15 walk-in sites arranged around a grass hill, offering an open camping experience adjacent to Sugarloaf Mountain. Sites 1-10 include horse picket lines for equestrian campers, while sites 11-15 are designated for non-horse camping. The park's rugged hills and challenging terrain are depicted on the Great Seal of Ohio, and the area holds historical significance related to the Shawnee nation and Ohio's early statehood. Amenities include pressurized water, vault latrines, a playground, and a shelterhouse. The campground serves as a base for exploring 23 miles of trails ranging from steep to gently rolling terrain, including the challenging Sugarloaf Mountain Trail which rises almost 500 feet in less than a quarter mile. An 18-hole disc golf course is available in the Ireland picnic area, and four separate picnic areas are scattered throughout the park. The setting offers distant views of ridgetops and the Scioto Valley below, providing a true wilderness experience.
