About
Caldwell Lake Campground sits within the 218-acre Scioto Trail State Park, part of the larger 9,000-acre Scioto Trail State Forest in the wooded hills of Ross County, southern Ohio. This quiet, family-oriented campground offers 55 sites set among the trees near Caldwell Lake, with 40 sites featuring electric hookups. The park is named for the historic Indian trail that followed the Scioto River from north central Ohio to Kentucky hunting grounds and was developed by the Civilian Conservation Corps in the 1930s. The campground provides vault latrines, pressurized water, a dump station, fire rings, and picnic tables at each site. A secluded hike-in camp is also available for backpackers seeking a more primitive experience. Campers enjoy direct access to Caldwell Lake, which permits electric motor boats and hand-powered boats only, with a boat ramp available. Kayaks, canoes, and paddle boats can be rented seasonally from the campground check-in station. A small swimming beach is located nearby. Several hiking and biking trails wind through the forested terrain, including the Tower Trail with steep climbs to ridge overlooks offering breathtaking vistas of the Scioto River Valley. The area is home to diverse wildlife including white-tailed deer, with opportunities for fishing in both Caldwell Lake and nearby Stewart Lake. The remote, undisturbed character of the park makes it an ideal escape for those seeking a peaceful camping experience.
