About

Decision Point State Marine Park occupies 460 acres at the eastern end of Passage Canal in Prince William Sound, roughly 8 miles from Whittier. The park is popular with sea kayakers and small boat users, as there is no adequate anchorage for larger vessels. Forested uplands of spruce and hemlock characterize the terrain, with excellent beaches for camping. The park offers three camping options: a reservable public-use cabin at Squirrel Cove that sleeps up to 8 people, four tent platforms in Squirrel Cove accessible via a boardwalk trail from the cabin, and beach camping near Decision Point that can accommodate up to 10 tents between dead trees above the high tide line. The cabin requires advance reservations through ReserveAmerica, while tent platforms and beach camping are first-come-first-served. Facilities include bear-proof food lockers, a cooking area, and fire rings on the beach. Open fires are permitted only on ocean beaches or in portable stoves. The park is primitive with no trash service, so campers must pack out all waste. Latrines may not always be available, and human waste must be buried away from trails and water sources.
