Forest Order No. 05-01-25-13, Camping Equipment Prohibition
Pursuant to 16 U.S.C. § 551 and 36 C.F.R. § 261.50(a), and to provide for public safety, the following acts are prohibited within the Angeles National Forest and San Gabriel Mountains National Monument. This Order is effective from August 15, 2025, through August 1, 2027.

Buckhorn Campground offers a quick mountain escape from Los Angeles, located 36 miles up Angeles Crest Highway in the San Gabriel Mountains. The campground features 38 sites nestled among incense cedars and pine trees along Buckhorn Creek, with three ADA-accessible sites available. The location serves as a gateway to excellent hiking, with direct access to the Burkhart Trailhead and connections to the Pacific Crest Trail, Silver Moccasin National Recreation Trail, and High Desert National Recreation Trail. The campground operates on a first-come, first-served basis with no advance reservations. Sites accommodate up to 8 people and one vehicle, with an additional vehicle fee available. Each site includes a picnic table, fire ring, and bear-proof storage locker for food and scented items. The facility provides vault toilets and piped water, though campers are advised to bring backup water supplies. Nearby attractions include Buckhorn Falls and Cooper Canyon Falls, accessible via hiking trails from the campground. The setting provides opportunities for stargazing and wildlife observation. RVs up to 18 feet can be accommodated, though no hookups are available. Payment is by cash or check only, and dogs must be kept on leash.
