About
Meadow Group Campground is situated at 5,300 feet elevation in the San Gabriel Mountains National Monument, accessible via State Highway 2 (Angeles Crest Scenic Byway), 26 miles north of the 210 Freeway in La Canada. The campground features two group sites nestled among Coulter pines, scrub oaks, and grasslands, providing a scenic setting for organized group camping experiences. The location offers excellent access to wilderness and recreational opportunities. The San Gabriel Wilderness boundary lies just 1.5 miles away, where hiking and equestrian use is permitted. The nearby Chilao Visitor Center, also 1.5 miles from camp, provides exhibits, educational programs, and exceptional birdwatching opportunities featuring ten species of woodpeckers. Additional hiking, biking, and equestrian trails radiate from the area. The campground accommodates groups of varying sizes, with one site suitable for up to 24 people and 6 vehicles, and a larger site for up to 80 people and 20 vehicles. The maximum RV length is 30 feet, though no hookups are available. The Angeles Crest Highway winds through spectacular mountain scenery, with numerous vista points offering expansive views of the Mojave Desert, San Gabriel Mountains, and surrounding valleys.
Directions
From the Los Angeles basin, take I-210 (Foothill Freeway) to the State Highway 2 (Angeles Crest Highway) exit in La Canada. Turn north and stay on Highway 2 for 25.6 miles to Lower Chilao Road (Forest Service Road 3N21). Turn left onto Lower Chilao Road and proceed west 1.5 miles to the entrance gate on the left. A combination code obtained when confirming your reservation is required to open the gate.
