About
Gillette Campground is located in Colville National Forest at 3,250 feet elevation, directly across County Road 4987 from Lake Gillette. The campground sits in a stand of lodgepole pine and tamarack trees that provide shade to many of the 30 single-family campsites. While sites are spacious, they are not particularly private. The campground features modern amenities including paved interior roads, a pressurized water system, accessible concrete vault toilets, and bear-proof garbage containers. Recreation opportunities abound with Lake Gillette just a quarter-mile walk from camp, offering swimming, boating, and fishing. The Springboard Trail #149 and Rufus Trail both originate from the campground, providing excellent hiking options. A covered area featuring a large tree trunk serves as an interesting attraction. The campground welcomes OHVs, which are allowed to drive directly in and out of the facility. The east end of the campground includes free parking for trail users. Reservations are available through Recreation.gov up to six months in advance and are recommended during peak season. The campground is operated by Scenic Canyons Recreational Services under special use permit with the U.S. Forest Service. Access is convenient via Highway 20, located 23 miles east of Colville and 15 miles west of Ione, Washington.
