Air Quality Alert issued July 2 at 3:30PM EDT by NWS State College PA

The Pennsylvania Department of Environmental Protection has issued a Code ORANGE Air Quality Alert on Friday for the Susquehanna Valley. A Code ORANGE Air Quality Alert means that air pollution concentrations within the region may become unhealthy for sensitive groups. Sensitive groups include children, people suffering from asthma, heart disease or other lung diseases, and the elderly. The effects of air pollution can be minimized by avoiding strenuous activity or exercise outdoors. About

Gifford Pinchot State Park in northern York County provides one of the commonwealth's largest campgrounds with 289 sites spread along the southern shore of a scenic 340-acre lake. All sites feature macadam pads that accommodate everything from tents to large motorhomes. Many sites include electric hookups with 20, 30, or 50 amp service, and 22 sites offer full connections with water, sewer, and electricity. Modern bathhouses with flush toilets and hot showers serve campers, along with a sanitary dump station. Each site includes a fire ring with grill and picnic table. The campground office is staffed during the season, and the park offers ADA accessible campsites, a cabin, yurt, and cottage. Pets are permitted on designated campsites only. Beyond camping, the park features an ADA accessible swimming beach, boat launching and mooring areas, hiking trails, an outdoor amphitheater, and organized group tenting areas that can accommodate up to 250 people. Reservations are available through ReserveAmerica up to 11 months in advance.

Directions

The park is situated in northern York County along PA 177 between Rossville and Lewisberry. From Harrisburg, take I-83 south to Exit 35 (Lewisberry), then PA 177 south. From York, take PA 74 north or I-83 north to Exit 32 (Newberrytown), then PA 382 west to PA 177 south.
