About
Snow Peak Cabin sits at an elevation of 6,400 feet on a ridge in the Kettle River Mountain Range, offering panoramic views stretching from the Cascades to the mountains of Canada and northern Idaho. This charming one-room cabin was built in 1995 through the cooperative efforts of the Snow Peak Shelter Alliance and the Colville National Forest. Despite its relatively recent construction, it retains the feel of a historic backcountry shelter. The cabin is equipped with cots and foam pads for up to four people, a wood stove for heating, a propane cook stove, basic cookware and utensils, and solar-powered lighting. An outhouse and horse corrals are located nearby. Guests must bring their own drinking water, sleeping bags, toilet paper, garbage bags, and food. Firewood is provided but must be split by guests. The surrounding area is closed to motorized use, making it ideal for backcountry exploration. Popular activities include cross-country skiing, snowshoeing, hiking, mountain biking, and horseback riding on trails like the Kettle Crest South Trail, Sherman Loop Trail, and Edds Mountain Trail. Wildlife including bears frequent the area, so proper food storage is essential. There is no cell phone service at the cabin.
