About

German Bridge Campground occupies a scenic position at the headwaters of Dewey Lake, a mountain reservoir nestled in the rolling hills of eastern Kentucky just west of the Appalachian Mountains. Operated by the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, the campground provides approximately 30 sites ranging from primitive tent spots to full hookup RV pads with electric and water connections. The standout feature is the equestrian infrastructure: a 20-stall horse barn serves riders accessing the Sugarcamp Mountain Trail System, which winds through approximately 18 miles of forested terrain with benches and hitching posts along the routes. These multi-use trails accommodate hiking, mountain biking, and horseback riding, with views of Dewey Lake and surrounding ridgelines. Lake recreation includes fishing for largemouth bass, crappie, bluegill, channel catfish, and muskie. A boat ramp at the campground provides direct water access. Additional facilities include a playground, picnic shelters, restrooms with showers, and a dump station.
