German Bridge Campground is situated at the headwaters of Dewey Lake, a scenic mountain reservoir in eastern Kentucky managed by the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers. The campground is located off Kentucky Route 194 and offers a mix of camping experiences in a forested, rolling hill setting just west of the Appalachian Mountains.
The campground features approximately 30 campsites with electric and water hookups, as well as primitive camping options. Facilities include a dump station, men's and women's restrooms with showers, picnic shelters, a playground, and a boat ramp for lake access. A standout feature is the 20-stall horse barn, making this an excellent destination for equestrian campers. The campground serves as a gateway to the Sugarcamp Mountain Trail System, which offers miles of multi-use trails for hiking, mountain biking, and horseback riding with spectacular views of Dewey Lake and the surrounding mountains.
The lake and surrounding forests provide habitat for diverse wildlife including bald eagles, black bear, elk, deer, osprey, and otters. Fishing opportunities abound for bass, crappie, bluegill, catfish, and muskie. Jenny Wiley State Resort Park is located nearby, offering additional amenities and recreation opportunities. The campground's location at the headwaters makes it a peaceful retreat for those seeking outdoor adventure in the Kentucky Wildlands.
Directions
From U.S. Highway 23, turn east onto Kentucky Route 3. After approximately 3 miles, turn onto Route 3051, which merges into Route 302. The campground is located off Kentucky Route 194 at the headwaters of Dewey Lake.
