About

Freeman Reservoir Campground is situated in the Medicine Bow-Routt National Forest at 8,700 feet elevation, approximately 20 miles northeast of Craig, Colorado. The campground features 18 sites arranged near a 17-acre reservoir, offering both pull-through and back-in configurations to accommodate various camping setups. Each site includes a picnic table and fire pit, with vault toilets, potable water, and garbage service available throughout the campground. The facility caters to equestrian campers with dedicated corrals and horse trailer parking. The surrounding area provides access to several non-motorized trails suitable for mountain biking, hiking, and horseback riding. Motorized trail access is not available from this campground. A boat ramp provides access to Freeman Reservoir for fishing and non-motorized boating; motor-propelled watercraft including electric motors are prohibited on the reservoir. The campground operates on a first-come, first-served basis during its seasonal opening from Memorial Day weekend through Labor Day weekend. Access is via Highway 13 north from Craig, then east on Moffat County Road 11 for approximately 8.5 miles on gravel road. The area experiences light to moderate usage and offers scenic views of the surrounding national forest landscape.

Directions

From Craig, travel north on Highway 13 for 12 miles, then east on Moffat County Road 11 (Freeman Reservoir Access). Continue on the gravel road for 8.5 miles to the recreation area.
