About

Yampa River State Park provides access to 134 miles of the Yampa River through northwest Colorado, with the Headquarters campground serving as the primary developed facility near Hayden. The campground offers 50 sites ranging from electric RV hookups to basic tent sites and unique tipi rentals. A camper services building provides coin-operated showers and laundry during summer months, while vault toilets and potable water are available on-site. The dump station at the campground entrance serves guests from multiple nearby parks. Beyond the Headquarters area, the park manages several primitive camping locations along the river corridor including Maybell Bridge, Juniper Canyon, Duffy Mountain, and East Cross Mountain, offering a more rustic experience with fire rings, picnic tables, and vault toilets. These primitive sites operate first-come, first-served with permits purchased at on-site kiosks. The Visitor Center at Headquarters provides maps, interpretive displays, and a small store with books and supplies. A 1.25-mile nature trail with interpretive displays begins at the campground. The park is popular for whitewater rafting, kayaking, and fishing, with the Yampa being one of the last free-flowing rivers in the Colorado River system.
