* WHAT...Flash flooding caused by excessive rainfall continues to be possible. * WHERE...Portions of Colorado, including the following areas, Central Colorado River Basin, Central Gunnison and Uncompahgre River Basin, Central Yampa River Basin, Debeque to Silt Corridor, Flat Tops, Four Corners/Upper Dolores River, Gore and Elk Mountains/Central Mountain Valleys, Grand Valley, Grand and Battlement Mesas, Northwest San Juan Mountains, Paradox Valley/Lower Dolores River, Roan and Tavaputs Plateaus, Southwest San Juan Mountains, Uncompahgre Plateau and Dallas Divide, Upper Gunnison River Valley and West Elk and Sawatch Mountains and Utah, including the following areas, Arches/Grand Flat, Canyonlands/Natural Bridges, La Sal and Abajo Mountains, Southeast Utah and Tavaputs Plateau. * WHEN...Through this evening. * IMPACTS...Excessive runoff may result in flooding of creeks, streams, slot canyons, slick rock areas, recent burn scars, and other low-lying and flood-prone locations. Flooding may occur in poor drainage and urban areas. * ADDITIONAL DETAILS... - Monsoonal moisture will remain across the area through this evening and will support thunderstorms and showers with heavy rainfall across the watch area. About
Elkhead Reservoir State Park occupies 2,100 acres in Moffat County, centered on a 900-acre reservoir that serves as an oasis in the high desert of the Yampa Valley. The park lies about 11 miles northeast of Craig and offers warm-water fishing for bass, bluegill, and crappie, plus boating, swimming, and jet skiing when the boat ramp opens in mid-May. Two campgrounds provide 46 sites, including six that are ADA accessible. Each site features a hardened gravel pad, picnic table, shade shelter, and fire pit. Some sites offer electric hookups. The park has vault restrooms but no potable water or dump station on site; the nearest dump station is 12 miles west at Yampa River State Park. Reservations are made through cpwshop.com up to six months in advance. Beyond camping, 10.5 miles of trails wind through sagebrush and juniper terrain with views of the reservoir and surrounding mesas. Leashed pets are welcome on trails and in campgrounds. The park gates are open daily from 5 a.m. to 10 p.m.
Directions
From Craig, travel east on Highway 40 for approximately 7 miles to Moffat County Road 29. Turn left and continue north 4 miles, then turn right on MCR 28 to enter the park.
