About
Fox Creek Cabin is a primitive former ranger station nestled in a small clearing surrounded by thick evergreen forest in the Gallatin Mountain Range, about 14 miles south of Bozeman. Situated at approximately 6,700 feet elevation next to South Cottonwood Creek, this remote cabin offers basic amenities for up to two people. The cabin features bunk beds with mattresses, a small wood stove for heating and cooking, a table with chairs, and basic cookware and utensils. An outhouse with a vault toilet is provided. No electricity or running water is available, and guests must bring their own water supply, bedding, lighting, firewood supplies, and all other necessities. The cabin is located in a non-motorized area and requires hiking, biking, or horseback riding to access. Summer access via the Langohr Road trail is approximately 2.5 miles, though a four-wheel drive vehicle is recommended for the approach road. Winter access from the South Cottonwood Trailhead requires skiing, snowshoeing, or hiking about 6 miles, as Langohr Road closes December 2 through June 15. The access trails provide scenic views of wildflower meadows and 10,154-foot Mount Blackmore, with opportunities for hiking, mountain biking, cross-country skiing, fishing, and hunting. The area is home to grizzly and black bears, gray wolves, mountain lions, deer, elk, moose, bighorn sheep, and Canada lynx. The South Cottonwood and History Rock Trails connect to the Mount Blackmore Loop Trail, offering views of Hyalite Canyon. Guests are responsible for cleaning the cabin and packing out all trash prior to departure.
