About

Lower Hyalite Group Site is located in scenic Hyalite Canyon on the Bozeman Ranger District of the Custer Gallatin National Forest, just nine miles south of Bozeman. The group site sits next to Hyalite Creek at an elevation of 5,000 feet, surrounded by mountains covered in fir, pine, and spruce trees. The campground offers a group site that can accommodate up to 100 people for overnight camping or day-use picnicking, featuring a large shelter with picnic tables and a campfire ring. Hyalite Creek provides excellent fishing opportunities for Yellowstone cutthroat, Arctic grayling, and brook trout. Numerous hiking trails can be found throughout Hyalite Canyon, and Hyalite Reservoir is just 6.5 miles away. The scenic 206-acre lake offers boating, canoeing, fishing, hiking, climbing, and picnicking. The popular Hyalite Peak Trail begins near the reservoir, climbing 3,450 feet over 7.5 miles past numerous waterfalls to beautiful Hyalite Lake and Hyalite Peak. Vault toilets are provided, but drinking water and trash collection are not available. Campers must bring their own water and pack out all garbage. Firewood is available for purchase at nearby Langohr Campground. The campground is accessible via paved Hyalite Canyon Road.
