About

Lower Hyalite Group is a reservable group campground located in Hyalite Canyon on the Bozeman Ranger District of the Custer Gallatin National Forest. Situated at 5,000 feet elevation along Hyalite Creek, the single group site can accommodate up to 100 people for overnight camping or day-use picnicking. The site includes a large shelter with picnic tables and a campfire ring, along with an accessible vault toilet. The surrounding area offers outstanding recreation opportunities. Hyalite Creek provides fishing for Yellowstone cutthroat, Arctic grayling, and brook trout. Hyalite Reservoir is 6.5 miles from the campground and offers boating, canoeing, and access to numerous hiking trails including the popular 7.5-mile Hyalite Peak Trail. Campers should come prepared as no potable water is available and all garbage must be packed out. Bears frequent the area, so proper food storage in approved containers is required. Firewood is available for purchase at the site or at nearby Langohr Campground.

Directions

From Main Street in Bozeman, travel south on 19th Avenue for 7 miles to paved Hyalite Canyon Road. Turn left and continue south for 2 miles to the group area.
