About

Hood Creek Campground is located on the banks of scenic Hyalite Reservoir, 17 miles south of Bozeman, Montana on the Bozeman Ranger District of the Custer Gallatin National Forest. At an elevation of 6,700 feet, some campsites are situated in open meadows along the shoreline while others are nestled among scattered pine and fir trees. The campground offers 25 individual campsites and one group site accommodating up to 80 people. Each site includes a picnic table and fire ring, with vault toilets and potable water available via hand pump. A boat ramp provides direct access to Hyalite Reservoir for boating, canoeing, and fishing. Anglers target Yellowstone cutthroat, Arctic grayling, and brook trout in both the reservoir and Hyalite Creek. Hyalite Canyon is a hub for hiking, with trails ranging from waterfall walks to the challenging 7.5-mile Hyalite Peak Trail that climbs 3,450 feet past numerous waterfalls to Hyalite Lake. Bears frequent the area, and all food must be stored in approved bear-resistant containers.

Directions

From Main Street in Bozeman, travel south on 19th Avenue for 7 miles to Hyalite Canyon Road. Turn left and continue 10 miles to the campground.
