About
Chisholm Campground is located in Hyalite Canyon within the Bozeman Ranger District of Custer Gallatin National Forest, approximately 18 miles south of Bozeman, Montana. Situated at 6,700 feet elevation in a forest of pine and fir trees, the campground offers direct access to Hyalite Reservoir and the East Fork Hyalite Creek, which runs along the north side of the campground. The surrounding area provides excellent recreational opportunities including boating, canoeing, kayaking, and fishing for Yellowstone cutthroat, Arctic grayling, and brook trout. Numerous hiking trails are accessible from Hyalite Canyon, most notably the Hyalite Peak Trail, a 7.5-mile one-way route that gains 3,450 feet in elevation while passing numerous waterfalls en route to Hyalite Lake and Peak. Bears frequent this area, so all food must be stored in approved bear-resistant containers and secured when your campsite is unoccupied. The campground operates seasonally from mid-May through September and reservations are available through Recreation.gov.
Directions
From Main Street in Bozeman, take 19th Avenue south for 7 miles to paved Hyalite Canyon Road. Turn left and continue south for 11 miles to the campground. The last mile of road is gravel.
