About

Fort Ridgely State Park's Equestrian Campground sits near the historic fort site in Renville County, providing horseback riders access to 10 miles of trails winding through hardwood forests and ravines above the Minnesota River Valley. The 20-site horse camp includes five sites with electric hookups and all sites feature standard amenities: picnic table, fire ring with grill, hitching rail or high line, potable water access, and primitive toilets. A shower building serves the campground, and manure bins are provided throughout. Box stalls are available for $5 per night, offering additional stabling options beyond the standard hitching posts. The nearby farmhouse (available separately) sleeps six and provides another lodging option with convenient trail access. The campground operates seasonally from May 1 through November 1. Beyond trail riding, visitors can explore the ruins of Fort Ridgely, which was the site of two battles during the U.S.-Dakota War of 1862. The park also offers a trout-stocked creek, a historic CCC-built amphitheater, and panoramic views from the Valley Overlook. A horse pass is required for riders over age 16 on DNR-managed trails.
