Minneopa State Park Group Campground sits within one of southern Minnesota's most distinctive state parks, where Minneopa Creek tumbles over two waterfalls before joining the Minnesota River. The park's name derives from the Dakota language meaning "water falling twice," referring to the 10-foot upper falls and dramatic 39-foot lower falls. Groups camping here enjoy proximity to these natural features along with the park's herd of bison, viewable from the Bison Drive. The group campground offers four primitive camping areas designed for organized groups such as scout troops, family reunions, and outdoor clubs. Each site accommodates up to 15 people and includes picnic tables and fire rings with grills for cooking. Vault toilets and potable water are accessible nearby, though modern restroom and shower facilities are not provided at group sites. The campground operates seasonally from mid-May through October. Beyond camping, groups can explore over 4.5 miles of hiking trails, visit the historic 1862 Seppmann Windmill, and walk across the 1921 cement bridge spanning Minneopa Creek. The park also offers picnic areas with volleyball and horseshoes, making it well-suited for group gatherings combining camping with day activities.
