Fort Ridgely State Park Enhanced Group Camp

Open — Closed for the season. Minnesota state parks typically operate group camps from late spring through fall, with specific dates varying by year.

About

Fort Ridgely State Park Enhanced Group Camp offers group camping in a historic setting along the Minnesota River in southern Minnesota. This primitive group site can accommodate 30-40 people and is ideal for organized groups, family reunions, or large gatherings. The campground provides vault toilets, fire rings, and picnic tables in a primarily tent-camping environment. Fort Ridgely State Park preserves the historic fort built in 1853 as a frontier garrison, which later became the site of the Battle of Fort Ridgely during the U.S.-Dakota War of 1862. Beyond the group camp, the park offers 31 drive-in campsites, three backpack sites, and a horse camp with 14 sites. Visitors can explore the historic fort ruins, visit the museum and cemetery, hike trails through rolling hills, and enjoy a 9-hole golf course that meanders through the landscape. The park is located in Nicollet County near Fairfax, offering a blend of history, natural beauty, and recreational opportunities. In addition to camping, the park features a historic farmhouse and chalet available for rent, providing options for groups seeking more amenities. The Enhanced Group Camp is reservable through the Minnesota State Parks reservation system.
