About
Set in the shaded bluffs of southern Minnesota along the Cottonwood River, Flandrau State Park Rustic Campground provides a more secluded alternative to the park's semi-modern campground. The rustic campground features 33 drive-in campsites and 3 walk-in sites, offering a quieter experience away from the main day-use area and swimming pond. The campground is equipped with vault toilets and a hand pump for water access. While the facilities are basic, campers staying in the rustic campground can access showers at the beach house concession building near the swimming pond, located approximately half a mile away. The park itself sits in a diverse landscape with wooded river bottoms, oxbow marshes, and open grasslands. The Cottonwood River meanders through the park, offering canoeing and kayaking opportunities via a carry-in access point. Historic WPA-era stone buildings built by the Civilian Conservation Corps during the Depression add character to the park. The campground provides access to the park's trail system, which includes 8 miles of hiking trails and winter opportunities for cross-country skiing and snowshoeing.
Directions
From U.S. Highway 14, take State Highway 15 south for 1.5 miles to 10th South Street. Turn west and continue for 1 mile to Summit Avenue. Turn south and follow signs to the park entrance.
