Flandrau State Park Semi-modern Campground

Flandrau State Park's semi-modern campground occupies a prime location within this historic southern Minnesota park, established along the Cottonwood River. The campground features 34 electric sites with 30 and 50 amp service and 18 non-electric tent sites, all nestled under a canopy of mature hardwoods. A centrally located shower building provides eight showers and flush toilets for registered campers. The park's centerpiece is its unique spring-fed, sand-bottom swimming pond with depths reaching seven feet and an accessible ramp for easy entry. Historic 1930s WPA/CCC stone structures dot the landscape, including the Group Center which served as a depression-era work camp and later housed German POWs during WWII. Recreation options include hiking trails winding through floodplain forests and prairie grasslands, fishing along the Big Cottonwood River, volleyball courts, horseshoe pits, and equipment rentals. The campground can accommodate larger RVs up to 66 feet in length, making it accessible for most camping setups. Winter visitors can rent cross-country skis and snowshoes from the park office warming house.

Directions

From New Ulm, follow Broadway (State Highway 15) to 10th Street South, then proceed west on 10th Street South up the hill to Summit Avenue. Turn left (south) and proceed three blocks to the park entrance at 1300 Summit Avenue.
