About

Keith J. Charters Traverse City State Park is a 75-acre urban park located just 2 miles from downtown Traverse City on the east arm of Grand Traverse Bay. The modern campground features over 300 wooded sites divided into three loops: west, central, and east. The west loop offers 20-, 30-, and 50-amp electrical service, while the central and east loops provide 20- and 30-amp hookups. Each site includes a fire ring and picnic table. The park offers excellent amenities including flush restrooms, hot showers, a dump and fill station, firewood sales, and trash/recycling services. A quarter-mile sandy beach with a beach house provides swimming access to Grand Traverse Bay. The 10.5-mile TART Trail runs parallel to the park, connecting Acme Township to downtown Traverse City via paved path. Mini cabins with kitchenettes are also available. The campground is currently undergoing a major $8.5 million renovation funded by the American Rescue Plan Act. Improvements include a redesigned park entrance with new signalized intersection, new campground contact station, relocated park headquarters, and expanded sanitation facilities. The day-use beach area remains open during construction.
