About
Located at the very tip of Michigan's Leelanau Peninsula, Leelanau State Park Campground offers a unique rustic camping experience along Lake Michigan's rocky shoreline. The campground features 51 sites, with approximately half positioned directly on the water and the remainder tucked into wooded areas providing privacy and lake views. The cool, shaded sites beneath big trees and access to the rocky beach give this campground its distinctive character. The campground provides essential amenities including potable water and trailer fill stations, but maintains its rustic character with vault toilets and no electrical hookups, modern restrooms, showers, or dump station. Three mini cabins are available, each sleeping five people with bunk beds, mini refrigerators, microwaves, and covered porches. Two cabins are pet-friendly. The park encompasses over 1,550 acres and is home to the historic Grand Traverse Lighthouse, one of the oldest on the Great Lakes. The park's trail system at Cathead Bay is located a few miles south and offers 8.5 miles of hiking and cross-country skiing trails. The area is popular year-round, with fall colors drawing autumn visitors and Nordic skiers enjoying the trails in winter.
