About
Fawn Creek Youth Campground is a designated primitive campground reserved exclusively for organized youth groups including Boy Scouts, Girl Scouts, church youth groups, school groups, civic youth organizations, and university organizations and clubs. Located on the west side of Wichita Mountains Wildlife Refuge, the campground sits within walking distance of French Lake and the Dog Run Hollow Trail System trailheads, offering quality opportunities for fishing, canoeing, kayaking, and hiking.
The Wichita Mountains Wildlife Refuge encompasses approximately 60,000 acres of mixed grass prairie, ancient granite mountains, and fresh water lakes and streams. Best known for its roaming herds of bison, longhorn, and Rocky Mountain elk, the refuge offers quality opportunities for wildlife dependent recreation. The worn granite mountains rise dramatically above the Oklahoma prairie, creating a lasting refuge for wildlife and providing visitors with opportunities to explore cedar forests, wide open spaces, and pristine natural areas.
Youth groups can explore all areas of the refuge with a short drive from Fawn Creek, including Mount Scott, Prairie Dog Town, and numerous fishing and wildlife viewing locations. Groups must contact the Refuge Visitor Center at 580-429-3222 before making a reservation to confirm eligibility. Reservations are managed through Recreation.gov.
