Alder Glen Recreation Site

Closed — Closed for the season. Camping season is generally May through September, with Alder Glen remaining open through the weekend following General Western Oregon Coast 2nd Season for elk. Reservations available on Recreation.gov. Water may be turned off during months with reduced sunlight, so bring your own drinking water.

A place to get away from the hustle and bustle of the electronic age, Alder Glen Recreation Site is the Bureau of Land Management's easternmost campground in the Nestucca River Recreation Area. The campground sits along the Nestucca River National Back Country Byway and the newly designated Nestucca Wild and Scenic River, offering 11 campsites nestled in the Oregon Coast Range. The Nestucca River is renowned for fishing opportunities and natural beauty. The campground features an accessible trail leading to a fishing and viewing platform, making it easy to enjoy the river. Each campsite includes a picnic table, fire ring, and paved parking area. The Byway takes travelers on a slow, leisurely route that winds through Oregon's Coast Range, perfect for exploring by car, motorcycle, or bicycle. Nearby attractions include the Nestucca River Back Country Byway and the Upper Nestucca OHV Area, which includes Whipup Flat, Elk Flat, and Grassy Flat. Note that there is no cell reception in the drainage, so visitors should download the Recreation.gov Mobile App before arrival for non-reserved site payments.

Directions

From Beaver, Oregon, head east on Blaine Road. At Blaine, take a slight right to continue onto NF-85/Upper Nestucca Road. The main road will switch from NF-85 to Upper Nestucca River Road, which finally turns into Nestucca River Road. Alder Glen Recreation Site will be on the right, approximately 17 miles from Beaver.
