About
Elks Flat Campground is nestled in a grassy meadow along the South Fork Boise River in Idaho's Boise National Forest. Located at 4,400 feet elevation at the foot of the Trinity Mountain Range, the campground is surrounded by stands of cottonwood, aspen, Douglas fir, and ponderosa pine. The river running along the eastern edge provides excellent opportunities for fishing rainbow trout, swimming, and rafting. The campground offers 36 single and double campsites along with two large group sites featuring covered pavilions, cement pads, and capacity for up to 100 people each. All sites have picnic tables, and the campground provides vault toilets and drinking water from a hand pump. Single-family sites are available first-come, first-served while group sites can be reserved through Recreation.gov. Nearby recreation includes Green Creek Trail 270, a 4.5-mile trail for hiking, horseback riding, and dirt bikes starting about a mile from the campground. Paradise Hot Springs is nearby, and Baumgartner Hot Springs with its soaking pool and nature trail is approximately 16 miles away. Note that horses are not permitted within the campground itself.
