About
Schumaker Campground is located on the edge of Twin Lakes near the boundary of the Selway Bitterroot Wilderness at 6,575 feet elevation. The campground features 16 campsites nestled in a forested setting with trails leading from campsites to the shoreline. Two sites are ADA-accessible, and the campground can accommodate vehicles up to 55 feet in length. Twin Lakes offers excellent opportunities for non-motorized boating and fishing, surrounded by pine forests and scenic mountain views. The nearby Twin Lakes Trailhead provides access to the Selway Bitterroot Wilderness for hiking and backcamping. Motorized boats are prohibited on the lakes. Access to Schumaker Campground requires traveling Lost Horse Road (Forest Service Road 429), a narrow, rough dirt road with potholes, rocks, and steep sections. High clearance vehicles are strongly recommended. The road is closed to wheeled motorized vehicles from December 1 to June 16 annually. If Schumaker Campground is full, dispersed camping opportunities are available along Lost Horse Road.
