About

Schumaker Campground sits in a forested setting on the edge of Twin Lakes, providing direct access to the Selway Bitterroot Wilderness via the Twin Lakes Trailhead. The campground features 16 campsites including two that are ADA accessible, along with two vault toilets. This is a primitive, no-fee campground with no potable water, so campers must bring their own water supply and pack out all trash. The journey to Schumaker requires navigating Forest Service Road 429 (Lost Horse Road), which can be extremely rough due to potholes and rocks. High-clearance vehicles are recommended, and the maximum vehicle length is 55 feet. From the Lost Horse Guard Station, take FS Road 5605 approximately 2 miles to reach the campground. Twin Lakes offers a peaceful setting for non-motorized boating, fishing, and hiking. Campfires are permitted subject to fire danger levels, and a food storage order is in effect throughout the Bitterroot National Forest. Quiet hours run from 10 p.m. to 6 a.m., and camping is limited to 16 consecutive days.
