About

Egan Basin Guard Station is a historic Forest Service cabin situated in an open meadow at 7,500 feet elevation, surrounded by mixed conifers, aspens, and the limestone peaks of the Bear River Mountains. The single-room A-frame structure features two single beds, a sleeping loft, table and chairs, and a wood stove for heating. Firewood may be available on-site. An outdoor picnic table and vault toilet are provided. This is a rustic, primitive facility with no electricity, potable water, or cook stove. Guests must bring all supplies including drinking water, bedding, cookware, light sources, and emergency gear. The cabin operates as a pack-in/pack-out facility, so bring trash bags and clean the cabin before departing. Recreational opportunities include hiking, mountain biking, OHV riding, and fishing in nearby Beaver Creek. Winter visitors can enjoy snowmobiling and cross-country skiing. Large populations of deer, elk, moose, and smaller wildlife inhabit this backcountry area.
