About

Albert Moser Campground is a historic site built by the Civilian Conservation Corps in the late 1930s, located on the banks of the Cub River in the Caribou-Targhee National Forest. The campground sits at 6,000 feet elevation about nine miles from Preston, Idaho, offering six single-family and three double-family sites amid dense stands of cottonwood trees that provide shade in summer and brilliant color in autumn. The Cub River provides excellent trout fishing, with anglers enjoying fly-fishing for wild cutthroat and hatchery rainbow trout. Numerous hiking, biking, horseback, and off-road vehicle trails crisscross the Cub River area. Each site includes a picnic table and campfire ring, with some sites featuring grills. Vault toilets and potable drinking water are available during the operating season. The campground is best suited for trailers 20 feet or less, with dirt roads and parking spurs throughout. After the regular season closes in early September, the campground remains accessible on a first-come, first-served basis with no fee, though toilet facilities and water are not available during the off-season.

Directions

From Preston, Idaho, head approximately 3 miles south on U.S. Highway 91. Turn east on Cub River Road (Forest Road 406). Proceed to the National Forest boundary. The campground is approximately 7 miles up Cub River Road, just inside the forest boundary.
