About
Divide Well Campground offers a secluded, rustic camping experience in the Umatilla National Forest. Located in a meadow with scattered ponderosa pine and denser fir along the edges, this 11-site campground provides a quiet retreat for those seeking solitude. The campground is especially popular with elk hunters during fall hunting season but sees minimal use throughout the rest of the year. Facilities are basic: two ADA-accessible vault toilets and picnic tables at each site. There is no potable water, so campers must bring their own supply. There is no garbage service, requiring visitors to pack out all trash. The campground is free and operates on a first-come, first-served basis. Nearby attractions include Potamus Point Interpretive Site, which offers breathtaking views, interesting geology, and opportunities to observe a herd of reintroduced bighorn sheep. Note that there are no developed trails on this side of the North Fork John Day Ranger District. The campground is maintained seasonally from August through mid-November; winter access is limited to snowmobiles once roads become snow-covered.
