Granite Springs Campground

Open year-round but access via Magruder Road (FR 468) is restricted by snow through winter and early spring. Road typically opens in late spring depending on snowmelt. No reservations required.

About

Granite Springs Campground offers a rugged backcountry camping experience along the historic Magruder Corridor, a 101-mile primitive route built by the Civilian Conservation Corps in the 1930s. The campground provides four basic campsites with metal fire rings, a vault toilet, and an information board. There are no picnic tables, and campers must pack in all drinking water. The Magruder Road (Forest Road 468) is a rough, steep, winding single-lane road with limited turnouts. It is not recommended for motor homes, trailers, or low-clearance vehicles. High-clearance trucks, motorcycles, and mountain bikes are best suited for this terrain. Travel time from Red River to the campground is slow, averaging 12-15 mph. OHV riding is popular along the Magruder Corridor and connecting Forest Service roads. The remote location provides solitude and access to wilderness areas, making it an excellent stopover for travelers exploring the backcountry between Idaho and Montana.
